Summary
Narendra Kohli has reinvented Mahabharata in modern prose. He has published the entire Mahabharata in series of 9 books and ‘Adhikar’, is second in the series. Series started with Bandhan, which focuses on Satyavati and Bhisma. Bhisma takes a sacred vow of lifelong celibacy and that forms the basis of the entire Mahabharata. Adhikar, shows the childhood of Pandavas and Kauravas, their ever building feud and most importantly the background of Droņacharya, who plays an important role in the epic. This book has stories which I had never heard of before, which clarifies the cause of some incidents that happened in the epic. Even though in Hindi, this series is a must read for anyone who loves epics and fantasy fiction as there has never been a better epic than Mahabharata.
